How we verify therapists

Every counsellor on One Good Hour is checked before their profile goes live: photo ID against a live selfie, right to work in the UK, membership of an accredited voluntary register (BACP, UKCP, NCPS or BABCP), original qualification certificates, and current professional indemnity insurance. Where a counsellor sees clients in person we also confirm the practice address.

“Counsellor” and “psychotherapist” are not protected titles in the UK, so we verify register membership rather than a state licence, and we re-check registers monthly. If a registration lapses, the verified badge is removed automatically and the profile is hidden from search until it is renewed.

We check documents, not clinical practice. If something feels wrong about a session, tell your counsellor if you can, use the complaints page here, or complain directly to their register — all three routes are always open to you.
